A Curator's View: Ian Thom Selects (Fall)
Jock Macdonald, Fall (Modality 16), 1937, oil on canvas, Collection of the Vancouver Art Gallery, Acquisition Fund
A Curator’s View: Ian Thom Selects unites historical and contemporary works selected by Ian M. Thom, the Vancouver Art Gallery’s former Senior Curator—Historical. Thom curated more than 80 exhibitions over his 30-year tenure at the Gallery. Most works in this exhibition are drawn from the Gallery’s permanent collection and are included here because of Thom’s personal connection to them, focusing on one curator’s intimate relationships to the more than 12,000 works in the Gallery’s holdings. The school tour will focus on pop art, abstraction, historical portraiture, and Canadian landscape paintings.
